 Hand Built work is made from a range of clays. Work is coiled or pressed and decorated by carving into the clay to give outline to the patterns or designs, as well as the addition of extra shapes modelled and attached by using slip. Work is then fired to 1150c . Glaze is applied by hand with a brush to the inlaid areas and then wiped off to leave a glazed outline. Coloured areas are achieved by applying coloured brush-on earthenware glaze fired to 1080c. Work is then fired again to 790c with on-glaze enamels and lustres applied over the glaze. Some work has oven fired paint applied on top of this depending on the effect required.  Extra materials such as hand made resin casts, wire, beads, string,  ribbon or found objects are glued or tied on afterwards.
